Prep for Post-Secondary, and Life!
For 3 weeks in May, 88 EFAC scholars gathered in Nairobi for the annual Bridge-to-College Workshop. This group of scholars are from the class of students that graduated from high school in April, sat for their high school exit exams (KCSE) for a month, and just recently began university. Throughout the workshop, they focused on:
Health & Wellness
Digital Literacy (and were issued their new laptops!)
Financial Literacy
Professional Profiles & Networking
Entrepreneurship & Design Thinking
Workshop Spotlight: Entrepreneurship
Passionate entrepreneur and EFAC supporter Jed Van Sciver recently visited Kenya. In addition to many trip highlights, Jed held an entrepreneurship workshop for EFAC scholars during the Bridge-to-College Workshop, encouraging them to think critically and creatively to imagine a business that provides a solution to a current problem. A critical element of this type of thinking is to encourage the students to create opportunities for themselves, especially important in a tough job market. On what impressed him the most about the workshop participants, Jed commented:
"It was impactful to me how important the role of social contribution and addressing the issues that negatively impact their community and culture is to these students."
