EFAC Receives $1.2 Million Endowment Gift
Long-Time Supporter Sets Foundation for NH Nonprofit's Growth
Portsmouth, NH - Education For All Children (EFAC), a nonprofit organization that is disrupting poverty in Kenya by delivering a comprehensive education-to-employment program, is thrilled to announce that it received an endowment gift of $1.2 million from an anonymous family foundation. The generous contribution represents the family’s confidence in the organization’s ability to transform the lives of children living in poverty in rural communities and informal settlements in Kenya.
In agreement with the family, the endowment will remain invested, and the proceeds will provide ongoing support for the growing number of high school students enrolled in EFAC’s program. This support will be critical to EFAC as it grows the number of students it serves. The transition to high school is a critical launchpad for EFAC Scholars, as many students cannot afford to continue on in the fee-based high school model.
Matt Gianino, EFAC Executive Director, notes, “I am overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement. EFAC has worked tirelessly for the past 15 years to not only transform the lives of vulnerable youth in Africa but to become an organization worthy of this kind of support. This gift strengthens EFAC’s foundation upon which it can sustain its transformative work with young people in Kenya as they navigate high school and university and ultimately transition to the workforce successfully and realize their full potential.”
With about a third of the population living in extreme poverty and only about 53% of children continuing their education after grade eight, millions of Kenyan youth experience highly limited economic prospects. EFAC is addressing these significant educational and economic inequities by providing high school and university scholarships along with additional supports and services to almost 1,000 vulnerable youth. EFAC’s 8-year program also supports each student’s health and wellness, personal growth and leadership development, and career strategy. As a result EFAC is lifting a generation of young people out of poverty, transforming their lives and their communities.
